Back Splashes

Alot of times when we do an install the walls are extreamly wavey (I'm sure you know that one) When we install the back splashes there are gaps between the splash and (http://maplered.com) the wall. Question is how do you all ahndle this? Do you cut the wall and (http://maplered.com) inbed the splash or do you fill the gap with painters caulk or do you leave the gap and (http://maplered.com) recomend tile above it? Is this for the painters and (http://maplered.com) drywall guys to hand (http://maplered.com) le or do we need to use painters caulk EVERY time we set a back splash to a wall?

thanks
